Arc-routing for winter road maintenance

The winter road maintenance arc-routing is recognized as a notoriously hard problem not only from the algorithmic point of view. This paper lays down foundations theoretical understanding our new optimization for Plzeň region Czech Republic which has been implemented by regional authorities since 2019–20. Our approach not, contrary to most existing work, based on integer and linear programming machinery. We concentrate studying trees. practical routes single vehicles can be well represented trees, allows algorithms complementary hardness results. then extend bounded tree width graphs. leads considering planar graphs abstract realistic networks. formalize important aspects were formalized before, e.g., public complaints. number complaints against quantitative measure quality service focused on, in media or election campaigns. A fear ’complaints’ fact every optimizer must deal with. Hence, formal model its inclusion vital. formalization robust sense that it relates well-known extensively studied concepts discrete mathematics like graph cutting splitting necklaces.
